Winters Coming #Etsy

I thought this might be appropriate with the threat of Arctic conditions here in the Uk hanging over us for next week. It may well miss us altogether.... or it might not, we`ll just have to wait and see.
Have to admit that I am like a big kid when it comes to the first snow fall. I just love to see it coming down and then once it has started laying it`s great to stand outside and listen to the silence. It`s as though a blanket of snow blanks out all the sound, especially when the snow is still falling.
Then of course, who can resist an expanse of untouched snow? Not me that`s for sure. I have to run around on it and leave my footprints everywhere.
See, told you I was a big kid.
Mind you, like everyone else I do soon get fed up with it.

Pink & Blue #Etsy

Today we have a complete change of pace with Pink and Blue. This time of year we tend to expect bold and bright with red, green and white as the prominent colours. We have been been very festive and will continue to be so but now and again I like to surprise you with something different.
I was asked yesterday, by a friend I was out with, if I have started my Christmas shopping yet and I said no. But thinking about it, that`s not strictly true. I do have one present so far and know what I am going to get for 2 others, so that is a start.
I had coffee out with a friend yesterday, as I said, we did some shopping and then had lunch together, it was really nice to slow down and have a complete change of pace.
Definitely getting colder now, with the threat of wintery weather to come. I believe Arctic has been mentioned. Brrrr!!

Just a sniffle that became a sneeze
just light, like a passing breeze.
The next was more like a gale
cheeks like a ship under full sale.
The third was a fully fledged storm
oh dear me, far from the norm.
First the heat, then the cold
next aching bones and feeling old.
Hammers pounding in my head
think I`d rather be in bed.
But NO, I`m a woman and strong,
though honestly, I could be wrong.
Too much sneezing, my poor sore nose
it`s starting to look like a red rose.
I`ll put my feet up, have a little rest
BIG yawn, yes I think that`s best!!

First Noel #Etsy

This came from a treasury challenge of traditional Christmas Carols. A very novel idea I thought, although in recent years classic pop songs about Christmas seem to have become part of it all too. Must admit I do love all the Christmas songs, old and new, they make everything feel so Christmassy.
I like that word but I`m not even sure it`s an actual word, not that it`s ever stopped me before. Made up words can be great fun I always think.
Just think I could do a whole series of Christmas carol blogs, as long as I can find the items to go in them that are in keeping with the theme. Certainly worth a thought methinks.

Stars all out, the moon so bright
casting it`s lovely silvery light.
The darkness of the velvet sky
giving way, as morning is nigh.
Now the fingers of morning creep in
to miss all this would be a sin.
The sky is edged with a golden hue
so gorgeous against the pure blue.

Great Gifts #Etsy

Right now I am feeling very virtuous about keeping up my blogging and happy that I am fitting it in so well around everything else.
The only trouble with writing so many rhymes all the time is that after a while you catch yourself thinking in rhyme a lot. Have to say that it can be quite annoying. For example I will be on the bus admiring all the colours of the leaves on the trees we pass and next thing I know I`m making up rhymes about them. It would be okay if I remembered them later but I don`t, it`s either write them down there and there or lose them.
A couple of days ago I was brandying the Christmas cakes and my grandaughter, who was making herself a sandwich at the time, wanted to know what the awful smell was. When she saw what I was doing she wanted a go too so I let her make holes in the bottom of the second cake for me to add the brandy. She was fascinated at how it was done and in years to come will probably be doing the same thing.
I think traditions are lovely at any time but even more so at Christmas.

The day began so grey and wet
dismal, dreary, dark and yet
now, blue sky, bright and sunny
but outside it`s not funny.
The wind has a real bite
and walking is quite a fight.
Leaves blowing everywhere
as trees shed without a care.
Winter has appeared today
and it seems is here to stay.
I suppose we`ve not done so bad
but it still seems rather sad
to have endless winter days ahead
so dark we want to stay in bed.
But then bright days appear
and the doldrums will clear
as we regain the zest for life
forgetting all the winter strife!!
