Christmas Colours #Etsy

This blog is from a treasury I did for the Craftyfolk Shop Promo Challenge. The winner for this week was Sheena of One Off Creations, filled with delectable delights.
Sheena`s bio says:
My name is Sheena and I am a classical musician. I've been making my own jewellery at home, in London, for three years now. I couldn't afford to buy the jewellery that I would choose to wear, so I started making pieces for myself. To my surprise and delight, it wasn't long before friends were asking me to make items for them too.
I try to use the best materials that I can afford, from gold filled and sterling silver findings to beautiful gemstone beads. It is colour that really inspires me, and I love to bring them together from opposite ends of the spectrum, as well as working with more toning palettes.
I am very excited to be trying for the first time to sell online, and I am having a lot of fun with the process, and trying out new things. I hope you like my jewellery as much as I love making it...

I just can`t think of a rhyme
it really has gone this time.
My head is stuffed with cotton wool,
this`ll probably be a load of bull.
My nose is getting sore
my thinking getting very poor.
I think my teeth may all fall out,
not really, but there is a doubt.
It doesn`t help that it`s turned cold
and all I want to do is fold
myself in to a blanket, snug,
just like a bug in a rug.
It`s not that bad, I`m being a wuss
my head is aching and all because
of a little bit of sinus pain
that has struck once again.
Very soon it will go once more
cos I will kick it out the door.
I`d forgotten what it was like
and I wish it would take a hike.
Very soon I`ll be back to me
and proper verse once more you`ll see!!

Reindeer #FolksyFriday

I couldn`t decide what to have on here today. I dilly dallied about, looked around and still couldn`t make up my mind. It was getting late and I just couldn`t settle on a theme at all. There was something I had thought of a couple of days ago but would it come to mind? Would it heck!
Didn`t help having a woolly head from a cold, just couldn`t get into it at all. My 13 yr old grandson had come round to earn some pocket money and do the ironing so I asked him. He came up with a few things but they weren`t quite right. I wanted something that was related to Christmas but different. So we batted it back and forth for a bit and then he suggested reindeer`s.
That was it, it reminded me I`d seen a couple on the Folksy front page and thought it would make a good Folksy Friday. So here we have it.
I found such a good variety of crafts featuring reindeer`s that I was surprised I hadn`t thought of it before.
Yesterday was very cold. I had my youngest grandson but he didn`t want to go out at all. He had already decided that he wanted to play on the Wii. So we got it set up and the time flew as we played. By the time he had had enough it was almost lunchtime. He had his lunch and a play and after I took him home, I got busy cutting out felt for needle books. I had a nice pile by the time I had finished, so I was pleased with my efforts.
Now all I have to do is sew them together. Hmmmm.... Anyway know of a sewing fairy?

Yesterday morning I saw a rainbow
it set the sky all a glow.
A massive arch in the sky,
a bit of magic up on high.
So big and vibrant it had a shadow
sitting so close to the bow.
Haven`t seen one that big in a while
and it really made me smile.
I stood and gazed as the rain came down
it was like the downturned smile of a clown.
So beautiful it gave me a lift
to see this gorgeous nature`s gift.
How many people never saw
it as they rushed out the door?
So many folk never ever see
nature`s glorious gallery.
Far too busy on the treadmill
to stop, enjoy and drink their fill.
So stop and look once in a while
to put away in your memory file!!

Snowy Days #Etsy

I think it was hearing about plummeting temperatures that made me think of snow. As an adult I think I`m supposed to say that it`s a nuisance and I don`t like it. The reality is... when it first snows I feel like a kid and find it very exciting. There`s just something about the soft fluffy snowflakes floating down and covering the world in white. Then when you step outside it`s all pristine and clean and there`s a hush everywhere. I know it`s because it muffles the sound as it`s falling but that hush to me is all part of the magic.
Don`t you think there is something magical about the falling snow? How about exciting? Anyone?
Don`t think about icy pavements or roads, traffic backed up or anything like that. Just picture standing at the window in the warmth of the house as it gently floats down. A bit like those snow globes.
I can`t help it, I`m just a big kid a lot of the time.
Not a lot to report as I`ve been at work slaving away, but I did start cutting out some felt this morning in readiness for making my two needle felted pictures that are finished into needle cases/books.
Got so many things I want to do and make buzzing in my head that I could do with 72 hours in every day at the minute.

When snow is softly falling
then fun and play is calling.
The urge to walk in a world of white
and gaze at the beautiful sight.
Snowflakes sticking to eyelashes
seeing a robin in flashes.
It makes me think of being a child
when we could all run wild
through the woods and slide
or on sleds a fast glide.
Rolling a ball for a snowman
doing it just because you can.
Seeing a vast expanse of virgin snow,
now that makes my eyes glow.
I run and walk feeling like a pioneer
leaving footprints so very clear.
The beauty of snow clad trees
and icicles in the big freeze.
When it`s new it all looks good
just as winter really should!

Christmas Wrap & Cards #Folksy

I thought we would do something a bit different today and rather than the gifts, we`d have gift wrap and cards. It will make a nice change as you only ever get to see the odd item of either mixed in with other themes.
So what do you think, interesting or not? I think it`s highly relevant to the time of year and with more people becoming enviromentally aware it`s probably a good time to be thinking re-usable wrapping.
What would be the etiquette of that though? Not very polite to ask for the wrapping back I suppose but you want to be sure they were going to re-use it in the future. So do you ask or just hope? Quite a tricky one that.
Let`s have some replies to that one please, but do keep it clean.
To be honest I`m not sure I could bear to part with it. You might think I`m daft but when you see some of the wrap and gift bags etc you`ll know what I mean.
Ahhh... I`ve solved the problem. You give the re-usable wrap to close family then although they`ll roll their eyes and think you are eccentric they will hand it over. Maybe!
Great to see such beautifully illustrated wrap, cards and tags. Makes such a nice change from the usual mass produced ones you see everywhere.
My brain has been working over time lately. I`ve had a new idea brewing for quite some time. Had little goes but then it doesn`t go right or I`m too busy and give up on it. But at the minute it feels as though I have an invisible someone prodding me to get on with it. The minute I start doing anything else the prodding is back, so I give in and am working hard on it.

My brain is woolly and numb
probably too much sitting on my bum.
I couldn`t think of a nice rhyme
and now I`m running out of time.
Was trying to think of something witty
but nothings come to me for a ditty.
Got a bit of a stuffy head
that keeps on thinking of bed.
My eyes are gritty and want to sleep
and it`s getting hard to keep
them prised a part and awake
but it`s still early for goodness sake.
Still trying hard to think of verse
I suppose it could be worse.
I could be trying for a wax lyrical thing
or horror of horrors, trying to sing.
Now you are thankful you can`t hear or see
the eccentric person that is me.
Not really a rhyme with much style
but it will have to do for a while!!
