A Visit to Northumberland.

Today it`s a little bit about my holiday and the places I visited in Northumberland.
Had a visitor staying with me first for a couple of days until my grandsons birthday. We wanted to be home to celebrate him becoming 6. He had a party with his friends a few days before and it was a family get together on the actual day. With gifts from his friends and all the family he could start his own toyshop, one of the joys of a large family.
The following day we headed off to Northumberland with my youngest daughter`s in-laws. They are lovely people and opened their beautiful home to us and made us very welcome. They also drove us all over the place to visit the sights and we squeezed in a lot in our few days. We were also fed so well that I am trying to lose the extra pounds gained. Ooops. Well the food was so yummy and it would have been rude to refuse it, not to mention the wine.
We travelled up so very high,
a beautiful vista to make you sigh.
Rocky gullies made by rain,
dry for now but will fill again.
Sheep wandering where they will
munching grass to get their fill.
Walls marching across the land
each one a sturdy band
defining borders holding in stock,
trying to keep safe the vast flock.
As we travel lower wildflowers grow
spreading seeds as the winds blow.
Houses and buildings made of stone,
some derelict where owners have flown
from a desolate landscape so stark,
maybe they tried it on a lark.
So much beauty all around
where clouds seem to touch the ground!
