A-listers Style #Handmade #Folksy

Wonderfully stylish crafts from the A-listers today. What they lack in numbers they are making up for with the quality and style of the crafts on offer. If you are after a present or even starting your christmas shopping you are bound to find something you want here, if not on this blog, then in their shops.
I know lot`s of people groan at the thought of christmas while it is still summer, but if you have a large family then you have to start early. Mainly because, affording such a lot of gifts all at once is very expensive, whereas buying them here and there is much easier on the pocket. There is also the fact that much of the handmade creations are one offs and once they are sold then you have lost the chance to buy them. So often, it`s a case of, get it while it`s there.
Yesterday I worked on the mittens again. I decided I didn`t like the way I`d made the thumb and removed it. It then took me several goes and a few hours, to get the thumb right. I wrote it down as I went along so I know what I did. I`m glad to say that I am now completely happy with it, although the piece of paper has lot`s of scribbling out, where I kept changing it. Now that the thumb is sorted I went mad and started on another pair in a vivid fluffy pink. This yarn is so soft and warm, yet light, that it is great for winter.
The older two grandchildren popped in this morning. One of whom became the ironing fairy. I was busy making a quiche and my grandson asked what he could do. I said, how about jam tarts, which he thought was a great idea, so I quickly made more pastry. When my grandaughter appeared she used the rest of the pastry for fruit shortcake type creations. This is where you roll out the pastry, brush it with milk, then sprinkle on a little sugar. After this you put fruit across, sultanas etc, and fold it over. Then you keep putting a layer of fruit and folding until it is all used. Finally you brush the top with milk and cut a criss cross pattern into the top and pop into the oven until golden brown. Once cooked you just cut into slices. The children all love them and it`s a great way of using the surplus pastry.
It was funny though to see them sitting there waiting for them to cool, hoping they would have cooled enough to sample them before they had to go home. They both kept wandering over and staring at them as though it would make a difference. Luckily, though still on the warm side, they were ready for them to eat.
As usual to see a bigger picture or a description, just click on the item to view it in the shop.
ENJOY!!!

I saw the full moon, it made me smile,
haven`t seen one of those for a while.
Big and round with a soft gentle light,
nice to see it brighten up the night.
So many nights are cloudy of late,
clear skies were gone, is that fate?
But then it appeared just like magic,
not to have seen it, would be tragic.
The stars appeared too, shining bright
all in all, it was a wonderful sight.
The yesterday evening I saw,
a sailing vessel of yore.
Sailing along like a ship of the sky
a hot air balloon, rising so high.
Looking so very majestic and proud
even if the colour is too loud.
There`s just something that makes me stare,
even in the face of the setting suns glare.
A sense of adventure and daring
and the obvious danger so glaring.
Only a basket between you and the ground,
but to sail so high where there isn`t a sound,
must be such an exciting adventure,
unfortunately not a place I could venture.
My knees they knock standing on a chair
so you`d never get me up there.
But I can still look and dream
and wish i was part of the team!

  4. Thank you for including my hair clips!

I used to do the exact same thing with my Gran when I was little. She would make a pie and I would use the left over pastry to make fruit shortcake. Although we called
it Singing Lily (I think it must be a Lancastrian term!)
